BOOKING A GIG

      THE BAND:

• Artists of all genres will be considered

• Local artists from all over the world are encouraged​
   

      THE GIG:

• Placebo Space is an intimate space with a decent sized stage area, which (with enough notice) can be rearranged to meet your needs.

• Capacity is 57 which includes bar staff/band members and ticket sales will be capped with that in mind & once at capacity, a 1 in: 1 out rule will apply.

• If you require a table reserved for performers, that can be arranged.

• Typically, performers who choose to book a gig at Placebo Space have a local following and draw on them the fill the room. We do not operate like a typical bar and as such, we do not have "regulars" that we rely on for audience members (much like a concert hall or theatre).

• Gigs are booked on Friday/Saturday nights, which are our prime nights (also used for private events), so we expect that when the space is booked, the performer(s)/hosts/promotor will organize a full evening of entertainment (whether that is a single acts or is split between several acts that have been organized to support  the headliner, is up to you).

• It's expected that performers/hosts/organizers will share in the responsibility of promoting the event in order to ensure the room is filled w/ both audience members & customers (who also support  the room), as we cannot predict the turnout from show to show. The space is multi-purpose (comedy, poetry, art etc) and so, we cannot guarantee our reach is any greater than yours which is why it's important for performers/hosts/organizers to engage their regular audience/following/supporters. Just as it's not fair for you to play an empty/near empty room, it's not fair to the space to eat the costs of an unsuccessful night.

• We respect that promotion can become an annoyance to your following and while we understand the struggle is real, it's not a good reason to choose the promotion of one event over the other(s). If you are unable to devote the time to promotion or had something else in mind, we are happy to quote you for a private booking or rehearsal.

• Once a date has been secured (availability is most up-to-date in the facebook page calendar) and we've agreed a time, opening acts etc, we'd like to receive both a pdf. & jpeg copy of your poster for sharing with local news/entertainment sources, facebook fan page & promotion at Placebo Space. If you are printing your own posters, we ask that you please refrain from putting posters up on city property (as per bylaw #693 of the Toronto Municipal code for regulations) and get the permission of your local supporters before plastering it anywhere else. 

• All sets are to begin after 8:00pm on any given night, unless other arrangements have been made. Doors can be open from 7:00pm onward for load in, sound guy (aka co-owner/bartender) will be available before (and during) the show and sets should aim to wrap up around midnight. Last call is 2am.

• If you require letters of support or invitation for art grants etc let us know and we'll see what we can do!
  
  CANCELLATION POLICY:

• Bookings are often made months in advance and so, if there is a conflict in your schedule, we expect notice as soon as possible. When this is not possible, it is appropriate for you to help replace the acts. 

• Last minute cancellations are not good for business & while we understand that sometimes things just happen, they come with risks that can negatively impact business and we trust you'll understand why we do not accept future bookings from gigs that cancel last minute.
  
  BANDS ON TOUR:

• Unfortunately, we are not currently booking out of town bands that are touring/passing through the area. From time to time, we've made an effort to acommodate some of these bookings, but our experience has shown that out of town & touring bands have not been successful in promoting & engaging with local audience members & have struggled to gain the support of local bands, so we are not currently considering these requests. Just as it's not fair to you to play an empty/near empty room, it's not fair the space to eat the costs of an unsuccessful night.
  
  SPECS:

• Our P.A. is small, but capable. We have several mics/stands, 2 D.I boxes, a 16 channel xlr snake to mixer, 4 front of house speakers (left and right channel), 2 simple monitor wedges. Bands are responsible for travelling with their own gear, should they feel ours doesn't meet their needs. We have an old baby grand piano, a drum kit,  a set of small bongos and a new cajón.
